Postmortem twin infants

These twin infants are dressed in matching sack gowns of checked cotton gathered at the neck, and a white linen or cotton shirt. They look about two months old.

Postmortem Infant

This baby is probably a boy, as there is no center part in the hair. The gown has an unusually close neckline. The closed eyes indicate that the subject is dead.

Postmortem photos of babies were often the only image that had been captured of the child.

Toddler girl in cloak

This is an unusual cased image of a toddler girl, about two years old. She appears to be wearing a full circle cloak with a broad trim down the front opening. Underneath is a checked garment, whose details cannot be seen. Her hair is parted in the middle, but curled or dressed on the sides in a way that is hard to identify.

Infant 1

This infant is about four months old. The frock is typical of infant clothing throughout the period. As the eyes appear to be open, this baby was alive when the photograph was taken.
